Emergency Backup Light

An emergency backup light refers to an emergency lighting fixture with a battery backup system. Emergency lights are required to be installed throughout interior and exterior corridors in facilities that do not have an emergency power generator. Emergency lighting fixtures illuminate the exit pathway of a building during emergencies after electrical power is lost; such is the case often with fires and earthquakes. Emergency lights are mandated by international, federal, and state building/fire codes. Exitsigns.net manufactures many different types of emergency lights, from residential to commercial to industrial grade. All of the emergency light fixtures that we manufacture are offered through our online store, allowing you to purchase a high-quality products at affordable prices.

Battery backup systems are standard on all emergency light models. After hard-wiring your emergency lights the internal battery will begin to charge. After 24 hours the battery will be fully charged and you can test its capability using the push-to-test button located on the side of the unit. When fully charged, and emergency light’s battery backup system will power the unit for minimum 90 minutes after AC power is lost. Purchasing a larger battery will enable the unit to remain illuminated for more than 90 minutes.

Increasing the size of the battery within your emergency lighting fixture also gives you the capability of running remote lamp heads to the unit. Remote lamp heads are popular and affordable choice for installations where multiple fixtures are needed. Purchasing a remote capable unit allows you to connect multiple lamp heads to one main unit, meaning that there is essentially only one battery to maintain. Remote capable emergency lights and remote lamp heads are popular for installations where the one fixture is required indoors and one fixture is required outdoors. Outdoor rated emergency lights are expensive compared to indoor emergency lights and outdoor rated remote lamp heads. So, install a remote capable indoor unit and then simply connect an outdoor rated remote lamp head and you will satisfy the two needs in a cost-effective fashion.
