Emergency exits are exit doors that lead to the outside of a building and are used during emergencies. Emergency exit doors are required to be marked by illuminated exit signs. Additionally, exit signs are required to be installed throughout interior corridors and above doorways. Exit sign placement is regulated by local, state, and federal building codes. Illuminated exit signs are available in both electrical and non-electrical models.
Emergency lights, in addition to exit signs, are required lighting fixtures for buildings that do not have emergency power generators. Emergency lights illuminate the exit pathway for patrons when AC power is lost. If you need both an exit sign and an emergency light consider installing a combination unit. Combination exit sign with emergency light models require only one installation site and satisfy two building code requirements.
Electrical exit signs use energy efficient LED (light emitting diode) light strips to illuminate the word “EXIT” in colors of red or green. LED exit signs are energy efficient and long lasting; they consume less between 2 and 4 watts of electricity and last for 8 to 10 years. The EXIT series thermoplastic LED exit sign is our most popular model. Beginning at less than $20, the EXIT series is available in housing colors of black or white and can be top, side, or back mounted. Two faceplates and one backplate are included so the sign can be configured for both single and double-sided applications.

Non-electrical exit signs are great for installations where electricity is not easily accessible and have no maintenance costs for up to 25 years. Photoluminescent exit signs use glow-in-the-dark technology to absorb light and then glow when placed in dark conditions. Self-luminous exit signs use a glowing form of hydrogen, called tritium, for illumination and can be installed both indoors and outdoors.

Emergency lights turn on when building electricity is lost, utilizing an internal battery for operational power. The Exitsigns.net EL-1 series thermoplastic emergency light is affordable and provides powerful illumination, utilizing two 5.4-watt incandescent lamps. For a more aesthetically pleasing look, choose one of our recessed series emergency light models. We manufacture emergency lights and exit signs that can be installed into outdoor locations exposed to the elements. All of our products are UL Listed and come with a five-year warranty.
