Emergency light battery refers to the internal batteries that provide emergency power to lamp heads after AC power to a facility is lost. All emergency lights have internal batteries that are part of what is known as a battery backup system. All emergency lights hard wire into your electrical system, there are no battery operated emergency lights. The purpose of emergency lights is to illuminate the exit pathway and interior corridors after the lighting system has stopped working due to a loss of power, which is often the case in fires and earthquakes. The batteries inside emergency lights constantly charge while AC power is running and after power is lost, the batteries will provide a minimum 90 minutes of operational power. Battery backup systems have been used for more than 50 years and over time the size of batteries has decreased as efficiency has increased
